It was a Japanese painting, Torii Kiyonobu. I at first liked this painting because I find Asian art to be very interesting. The painting looks to be off a Japanese, man or women, maybe dancing or working. When I on read more on it, I saw that it is of an actor acting in a play. He is dancing around performing in a very graceful manor. He has long dark hair and is wearing a long Japanese robe. The robe it very detailed with designs, shapes, and pictures. I think, because of all its detail the robe stands out the most. When looking at this two dimensional piece of art, I started to see some of the art characteristics we learned about in class. One thing that stood out to me was the use of line. Another thing that stood out to me was the use of color. Movement was also very clear in this painting.I found the use of line in this painting to be very interesting. It’s a lot like all the other art pieces derive from Asian culture. I black lines used to outline the robe and draw the designs really reminded me of when we wrote in Japanese in class with the special ink and brushes. I remember it being really difficult to achieve nice looking lines because it was a one shot deal. Once you swiped the brush on the paper you couldn’t o over it again. The final results, although, came out very neat looking. After that experience I realized how even just a simple line can be very artistic when you put time and effort into it. I think this is how the Japanese culture looks at line as well. On the robe the thin, dark, curved lines give it the illusion it’s flowing through the air. This helps me see that he is dancing. To decorate the robe the artist used many different types of line. To create waves he used this curved lines and filled it in with dark areas. To draw patterns he used very thin light lines. Then he added very thick back swooping lines to surround some of the patterns. I also noticed the use of line on the land in the background. The artist uses thicker, wiggly lines to show the land. It gives me the idea that the land is full of hills and the homes lay in the middle of them. The use of color in this painting was also interesting to me. The color that sticks out the most is black. All the lines in the painting are done in black. It provides a main outline for all the subjects and makes then stand out and be visible. All the other colors are used to fill in empty space. The background is a light, faded, tan color. It looked like the entire surface was covered in this color first because it seems to blend with the other colors. It reminds me of when I was younger and I would try to make antique paper. I would crinkle a piece of paper and dip it in a tea or coffee then let it dry. The color of the painting looks just like that. The hat and pieces of the robe are filled with a dull orange. The last color used is a very light yellow and it is used to fill in the rest of the robe, some of the village, and the rope on his head. Besides black, all the colors are very similar. They are light, almost as if they were very watered down, and they seem to be monochromatic. They are different variations of tan. Tan with a hint of yellow and tan with a tint of orange. All these colors seem very warm to me. It reminds me of warmth or the fall season.Another thing I noticed in this painting was the way it showed movement. The way the subjects are arranged really draws my eye from one space to another. It is very obvious that the human is the main subject. Furthermore I think the robe on the human is the main focus. The human is directly in the center and is the largest character in the painting. Because it is a human and it’s in the center my eye is drawn to it first. My eye at the same time is drawn to it because of the detailed robe the human is wearing. Then from the human my eye moves to the piece of plant the human is holding. Because it stretches out horizontally though the entire painting and it’s connected to the human, my eye goes there second. Next my eye is drawn to the village in the back. Although some of the lines that make up the hills are darker, my eye goes there last because it is set up in the top corner and is hardly connected to the human. Lastly my eye is drawn to the artist’s signature. Although the signature is not part of the painting I feel that is it large enough and dark enough to deserve attention. It is placed in the bottom right corner and stretches up the side. Because it is not connected to any of the paintings subjects and is secluded in the corner my eye is drawn to it last.Out of many others the paintings Torii Kiyonobu, by Wagako Torii Shobei, stood out to me the most. I was initially drawn to it because it was a Japanese piece and I find Asian art to be very fascinating. As I took a closer look I noticed many elements of art. In particular, I noticed the use of line. It was very unique and strongly represented Japanese culture. I also noticed the use of color. The artist used a monochromatic color scheme of warm earth colors. Finally I noticed the painting had a sense of movement in the sense that my eye moved from one object to another. Taking time to analyze this piece really made me notice the art aspects I learned about in this class

This is a still life i drew with pencil in class. I had to create an outline, a version that had white positive space and black negative space, a version that had black positive space and white negative space, a version that was high contrast, a version using stipling, and finally a unique version that was my own idea.

For this version of the photo,

i drew it's outline and represented the positive space with white,

and the negative space with black

This was my unique version.
I used black ink to draw the face and body in high contrast. Monroe is smerking and looking very confident. She remindes me of someone i'd want to be and a way i wish i felt more often. I am most drawn to the color usage in this print. Andy uses bright colors, that in some cases dont even go together. He always manages to create something really unique.

for this assignment we had to find an image and create its sillouette using black and white paper. One reason why i really like it is becase of the lighting. i took it from behind a glass wall so the photo is slightly foggy, but the sun still shines bright in some spots. i also really like the pose of the gorilla. The way he is sort of rolled in a ball and the way he is gazing out really gives a peaceful vibe

"Jailbait" By Deborah Bright
This one photograph was very interesting to me. It deffinately stood out above all the other horse Photos at the exhibit. It is the backside of a toy horse. The hind legs stretch up to it's rear end, which is slightly covered by a curly blonde tail.

The elements of form are apparent in this photograph. The way the artist centered the horse in the middle of the picture plane created a very balanced proportion. Also adding to the balance of this photo is that fact that the width of the leg span is close to equal witht he width of the rear end. I think the horse is dominant in this photo. It is against a solid dark background and the only subject. Another element of form i thought might be shown is movement. The horse is still, but the curls and light reflection on the tail makes it look like it may be moving.

i chose this template because i really enjoyed the color. green is my favorite!!!

this is my blog, i hope you think its fabulous
